California has a mixed-relationship with the Eucalyptus tree, a non-native invasive hardwood species that was introduced to California and the Monterey Bay Area around the turn of the century. Unlike most varieties of the tree, “redgum” Eucalyptus is a dense hardwood that can be suitable for woodworking projects and finishes to a reddish-brown color.
