American Elm is a light, reddish-brown wood, sometimes with darker streaks that features coarse interlocking grain with an uneven texture that looks like feathers. Once abundant in North America, the tree was nearly wiped from existence by Dutch Elm Disease introduced into the US around the 1920s.
